Fall Break on Ocean Isle

October 13-15, 2017

The line where the sky meets the sea does indeed seem to be calling me, as this weekend trip to the coast marks my third beach vacation of the year (the first to Nag's Head and the second to Emerald Isle). This trip, taken over my siblings' shared fall break, was the first time the family has ever gone to the beach by ourselves for just the weekend, so the experience felt new even as we visited a familiar island.

Given our off-season visit, the island was surprisingly full of people but businesses were closed for the year, so we spent our short trip playing spikeball on the shoreline, swimming in our condo's oceanfront pool, reading books on the retro couches, streaming Stranger Things and Tucker & Dale vs Evil through a poor network connection. Family trips feel strange now that we're (almost) all adults and moving our own ways, but it's always fun to get away from the usual for a few days and experience something different together.
