This past weekend was a rare chance to spend time in the nation's capital without having to cram in all the sites or make the most of my time as I'm here for much longer than a weekend. And so, I spent the 3rd walking around the monuments with my family and seeing the classic DC sites, then spent the 4th in a less-crowded district during the day and at a friend's house in Alexandria during the evening. I missed the big fireworks show in the evening, but honestly, I'm glad to have skipped the crowds in exchange for some good food and conversation.
